In this DIY project, Koen shows how he closed an open staircase with custom-sawn MDF. He chose MDF lacquer carrier film for his project. Ordering custom sawn sheet material online saves a lot of time. Read more about his experience on the blog.

Description by Koen

Closed an open staircase to create a cupboard behind it in the future.

How I made this project

First of all, I measured all the steps and ordered the right planks for them. When the planks arrived, I sawed them with a jigsaw so that they fit nicely with the stairs. I then drilled holes in it with the undercover jig set from wolfcraft so that the planks at the back could be screwed into the step above. I also secured the plank with some extra screws to the step below. As a final step, the stairs are sealed and painted over.

Dimensions of my DIY project

The planks for the steps are all 2 cm thick so that you can easily drill into them with the jig set. Furthermore, they are 19.5 cm high, and the length depends on the length of the step.
