Description

OSB is a structurally strong sheet, which is widely used as a construction sheet for things like floors, walls and roof elements. Because OSB has an industrial look, it is also very popular for decorative applications such as furniture, kitchens and tabletops. OSB is an easy to process material. Order cut-to-size OSB 3 sheets online

Easily order cut-to-size OSB 3 sheets online. OSB can be cut or milled to size into various shapes. The most commonly chosen shape is a rectangle, but we also mill circles, ovals, hexagons or even parallelograms for you. Do you want to have your do-it-yourself project neatly finished? Then choose one of the available (edge) finishes.

OSB 3: what is it?

OSB is made of coarse wood chips that have been compressed into a robust sheet. OSB is a sheet material that is easy to work with. It is forceful and can be used for both decorative and structural applications. OSB 3 can be used in dry and slightly damp indoor areas. OSB is made from residual wood, which makes it a considerably better choice than various other sheet materials from an environmental point of view.

OSB is made from pressed wood chips and therefore belongs to the family of fibreboards, just like MDF and chipboard. OSB uses the most coarse wood chips, which are all laid in the same direction and then pressed together. An OSB sheet usually consists of 3 such layers, with the inner layer being oriented crosswise relative to the outer two layers. This makes the sheet strong.

OSB 3 vs. OSB 4

OSB 3 and OSB 4 are both popular types of panel materials, but they differ in specifications and application possibilities. OSB 3 is designed for use in dry and slightly damp areas, making it ideal for indoor applications such as wall cladding, flooring, and furniture. It offers good strength and stability but has limited moisture resistance.

OSB 4, on the other hand, is specially developed for use in humid conditions, making it stronger and more durable. It can be used both indoors and in light outdoor environments, and it is perfect for structural projects that require higher load capacities.

This makes OSB 4 a better choice for applications such as load-bearing structures and areas with greater exposure to moisture. In summary, the choice between OSB 3 and OSB 4 depends on the specific requirements of your project, with OSB 4 being the more robust option for more challenging conditions.

Available thicknesses of OSB 3

OSB can be ordered in different thicknesses. You can easily specify your desired thickness during the ordering process. This way you can be sure that the sheet material meets your requirements: both the size and thickness of the material. The following thicknesses are available: 9 mm, 11 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm and 18 mm.

Machining OSB sheets

Like the other fibreboards, OSB is easy to process. Sawing, milling, screwing and drilling are no problem at all and it hardly ever splits. Are you going to use the sheet decoratively? Then you have to sand and varnish the sheet material well. Before coating the material, a treatment with an edge sealer is desirable to prevent moisture penetration and to prevent sharp edges.

Specific applications of OSB 3

OSB is a structural sheet. It is extremely suitable for load-bearing structures, finishing work and humid rooms. It is also often used as a floor for e.g. attics and as a temporary floor. OSB 3 has moisture-repellent properties, making it suitable for use in slightly humid rooms. However, do not use OSB 3 outdoors. The sheet material is also growing in popularity for decorative applications. Think of wine racks, TV furniture, partition walls or counter tops.

Alternatives to OSB 3

Is OSB 3 not the right type of wood for your project or are you looking for a sheet with similar properties without the robust and coarse appearance of OSB? Then opt for plywood birch. View our other sheet materials below:
